This is definitely encouraging. The Red Sox rolled into Anaheim (yes, they still play there) and took two of three after the Yankees mess the weekend before. On top of that, the Yankees had some problems so now the Red Sox are only 5 1/2 games back in the East.
The Red Sox did continue their losing streak though. On Tuesday, Kevin Youkilis doubled home David Ortiz in the seventh, but in the Angels’ half of the inning, Garrett Anderson drove home Vlad Guerrero and that was the game winner. Kyle Snyder had a fair start considering his ERA and Kason Gabbard took the loss. David Ortiz walked twice and scored twice.
Finally, the Red Sox got a win on Wednesday. David Ortiz hit a two run homerun in the first inning to set the stage and Wily Mo Pena homered in the second. The Angels made it close, but the Red Sox held on and won 5-4. Jon Lester got the job done and he picked up the win. He gave up three runs on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts in five innings. Jonathon Papelbon picked up save number 33.
Josh Beckett came up huge yesterday. In the third one run game of the series, Beckett gave up one run on only four hits six innings. David Ortiz hit homerun number 46 and Dave Mirabelli drove home Mike Lowell with a ground out.
Next up is three against the formerly struggling Mariners. They were my favorite team this week. They took an eleven game losing streak into their series with the Yankees and won two of three. Hopefully they’ll roll over for us.
