The Red Sox took over first place with a win over the Angels this afternoon in the Liberty Day game. The capped off an impressive three game sweep that saw the Red Sox outscore a tough Angels team by the score of 25-3. That’s three very good games there and you wonder if it would have been four had the game not been postponed yesterday.
Tim Wakefield threw seven solid innings to pick up the win on Friday. He gave up just a single run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in the 10-1 win. David Ortiz drove in three runs and Doug Mirabelli hit his first homerun of the season. Kevin Youkilis had two hits and he also scored two runs.
On Saturday, Curt Schilling shutout out the Angels in front of a national audience. He threw eight innings and he gave up just four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. in the 8-0 win. David Ortiz homered and he drove in four runs while Eric Hinske had two hits, two walks and he scored three times.
Josh Beckett got it done this afternoon. He improved to 3-0 and he gave up just one run in six innings. David Ortiz hit homerun number four and Manny Ramirez drove in two in the 7-2 win.
Next up is three against the Jays. Dice-K throws tomorrow and that’s always fun to watch.
