The Red Sox added two middle relievers today. They signed J.C. Romero to be the team’s left handed specialist and they traded Phil Seibel to the Angels for Brendan Donnelly. Romero had a very tough year last year and while Donnelly had his highest ERA and WHIP of his career last year, he comes with a solid pedigree as a set up man.
Romero’s numbers do look ugly (.298 batting average against), he was very good against lefties, who hit only .202 against him. It was his number against righties (.398 batting average against!!) that got him into trouble. His 31/28 strikeout to walk ratio wasn’t anything to write home about either.
