Red Sox Limp Back Into Wild Card Race With Series Win Over White Sox

by @ 3:10 am. Filed under 2006 Season

This looks like it’s going to be “too little, too late.”  The Red Sox put together a nice series but at this point, a sweep was almost neccesary.  At ten games over .500, the Red Sox now trail the Twins by six games with 22 left to play.

The Red Sox needed ten innings to win on Monday.  Mike Lowell doubled home Manny Ramirez in the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames and then Carlos Pena hit a walk off homerun in the tenth to win it.  Julian Tavarez was solid in 6 1/3 innings and Mike Timlin picked up the win.

Kason Gabbard had the best start of his young career on Tuesday.  He threw seven innings of shutout ball and he and Mike Timlin combined for a four hit shutout.  The only run of the game came when Coco Crisp singled home Trot Nixon in the fourth inning.

Yesterday’s game was pretty ugly.  The White Sox had all eight of their runs by the fourth inning and Kyle Snyder didn’t even last three innings.  Coco Crisp’s solo homerun was the only run of the game for the Red Sox.

Next up is three against the Royals.  A sweep is needed so hopefully the boys will get the job done.
