The good news is, the Red Sox won’t have to pay Keith Foulke $7.5 million next year. The bad news is, the Red Sox might be forced to pay him $3.75 million because of a mutual option. That doesn’t sound quite as bad though when you consider the Red Sox have to pay Foulke $1,75 million no matter what.
Foulke’s had a couple of rough seasons after he helped the Red Sox to the World Series in 2004 so I wish Foulke the best in whatever he does. Then again, with Paplebon set to enter the rotation, there is a need for a closer. You wonder if Foulke has one more season left in the tank.
