Man this is getting tough. The Angels series seemed encouraging but now the Red Sox are back to square one. The Yankees are winning and they’re 6 1/2 games up.
Curt Schilling was roughed on Friday and the Red Sox ran into a relatively hot youngster that held the Red Sox scoreless. Gabe Kapler doubled and that was the only extra base hit of the game for the Sox. This wasn’t a pretty game.
Saturday wasn’t that much better. Mike Lowell singled home David Ortiz to break a 2-2 tie but Mike Timlin gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth to lose it. Coco Crisp homered and a solid start by David Wells went to waste.
Yesterday was more of the same. Kyle Snyder gave up five runs in the fifth inning and at that point, the game was over. David Ortiz and Mike Lowell both homered to make it interesting and in the end, the Red Sox were held to only those two hits in the 6-3 loss. Their other run came when Eric Hinske walked and later scored on an error.
Next up is three against the Oakland A’s, who have been playing some pretty good ball. The Yankees have the Tigers so hopefully Detroit can help us put a dent into the Yankees lead.
