What a way to go down. David Ortiz is in the hospital, Manny Ramirez is on the shelf, and the Red Sox just can’t seem to win. Out of three games against Oakland, the Red Sox were really only in one of them and if the Yankees win their second game against Detroit today, they’ll have a commanding nine game lead in the AL East.
Kason Gabbard got shelled on Monday. He gave up five runs on six hits and five walks in 3 1/3 innings. Keith Foulke was also knocked around to the tune of four runs and the Red Sox couldn’t put a single run on the board. Six different players scattered six hits in a pathetic day.
The losing continued yesterday. A fantastic start by Josh Beckett went to waste because all the Red Sox could muster was a single run. Eric Hinske singled home Kevin Youkillis to shave a two run lead down to one, but that was all the Red Sox could muster.
Today was equally as bad as Monday. It’s not even worth talking about at this point. Sigh. The only thing of note was, en route to a loss, Curt Schilling struck out his 3,000 batter in his career. Congrats Curt.
Next up is four against the Jays. If things continue to go bad, the Red Sox could find themselves in third place.
