Ortiz, Lester lead Boston to a 5-0 win over A’s

by @ 6:03 am. Filed under 2008 Red Sox

The Sox (3-1) beat the A’s 5-0 behind starter Jon Lester and David Ortiz. Jason Varitek continues to heat-up, with two hits including a solo home run. Bryan Corey vying for the final bull pen spot pitched well in relief, over one and a third innings, surrendering one hit and striking out two.  Manny Delcarmen added a scoreless ninth inning.

Sox notes: Kevin Youkilis broke the record for most consecutive errorless games (194) by a first baseman.  The win for Jon Lester was the first by a Red Sox lefty starter in Oakland since Zane Smith beat Dave Stewart 9-6 on May 29, 1995.  David Ortiz broke an 0-for-12 start to the season with a single and homer.  J.D. Drew played for the first time this season, after missing six games with sore back.  Bartolo Colon starts the 2008 PawSox opener tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.  Brandon Moss, once he plays tonight, is believed to be the only player ever to appear in openers for both the Red Sox and PawSox in the same season.

See if another title will be won by purchasing Green Bay Packers Tickets for the season. One of the model franchises is in Foxboro as New England Patriots Tickets are tough to get. The NFC East is pretty competitive so get New York Giants Tickets to see the rivalries. With a new identity New York Jets Tickets are great for the new stadium.
